This extension includes the 8850 Form, which normally must be filed within 28 days of a new employee\u2019s first day of work, in order for a business to request certification for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) Program. This extension provides businesses with the opportunity to screen and submit forms through the end of the year for individuals who were hired after August 10th in these hurricane affected counties.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here are the details:<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has granted tax relief for victims of Hurricane Florence in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.\u00a0 For those affected by the disaster, the tax relief extends the 28-day Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) filing deadline to January 31, 2019, for WOTC requests that were due on or after September 7, 2018 and before January 31, 2019.\u00a0\u00a0<b>Specifically, this applies to WOTC certification requests containing an employment start date on or after August 10, 2018 and on or before January 3, 2019.\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0Businesses affected by this extension are those whose qualifying employee, company, or WOTC consultant is located in a FEMA-declared disaster area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The declared areas in\u00a0<b>South Carolina<\/b>\u00a0are the counties of Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lancaster, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, Sumter and Williamsburg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The declared areas in\u00a0<b>North Carolina<\/b>\u00a0are the counties of Allegany, Anson, Ashe, Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Cabarrus, Carteret, Chatham, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Dare, Duplin, Granville, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Orange, Pamlico, Pender, Person, Pitt, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Union, Wayne, Wilson, and Yancey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The declared areas in\u00a0<b>Virginia<\/b>\u00a0are the counties of Charles City, Halifax, Henry, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Nelson, Patrick, Pittsylvania, and Russell and the independent cities of Franklin, Newport News, Richmond, and Williamsburg.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What is WOTC?<\/strong>\u00a0 WOTC (Work Opportunity\u00a0Tax Credits)\u00a0is a Federal tax credit available to employers who hire and retain individuals from certain target groups with significant barriers to employment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Uncertain if your company can benefit from these credits?
